Teaching English to Monks

My recent experience being part of VolunteerinSriLanka was a very positive and enjoyable time. I was well looked after by Mahendra and the accommodation was good. I was made feel very welcome and that my contribution was appreciated.

Teaching English to the little monks was both exhilarating and exhausting- in a good way! Their enthusiasm was delightful and their keeness to learn ensured that my time was well spent while teaching.

I highly recommend VolunteerinSriLanka if you are keen to positively contribute to people in Sri Lanka.

Turtles Conservation Program, Galle

I did the program from 15th to 28th march this year and did the Turtles conservation program in Galle since i always loved to care about animals đź’›

I had a separate room, it was clean and in a good condition and I had everything I needed there. And the host Mahendra is just such a lovely and caring person. He is very neat too. We became friends and had some tea together almost every evening and talked about everything, he knows English very well.

Program fee is 160$ and I think it's totally worth it! You get to spend the best vacation and at the same time you know that it has some purpose and meaning too.

And there is also so much stuff to do in Galle, I love this place, you can go surfing there, or go to explore the historical centre or local temple, it's very beautiful, or go to a cafe etc

I already miss Sri Lanka and hope to come back there next year!

Turtle Hatchery Program, Kogalla

I volunteered one week in the Turtle Hatchery in Kogalla. It was a great experience. The accommodation is on a hill in Rumassala and you can walk to the Jungle Beach or the Peace Pagoda in a few minutes. The food was very delicious and Mahendra asks what you want to eat everyday to accommodate you. Mahendra was very nice, courteous and does everything, so that one feels welcomed.

The people in the Turtle Hatchery are also very nice and welcoming. I worked in the Hatchery for a few hours a day and could visit various places in my free time afterwards.

Sambodhi Home Visit

I have visited Sambodhi Home during my trip to Sri Lanka few months back. Mr Mahendra was the main person and in charge of all from guiding, arranging and for the whole volunteering process. He's such a wonderful person, very friendly, helpful and has so much of knowledge. Plus, his English is really good. He's been a friend of mine now and he's a person who makes sure if everything is fine during the stay. Grateful that I met him.

My time in Sambodhi Home was more than just visiting or getting them things they need. As a person I love to connect and help people in ways with people with intellectual and physical challenges. Visiting places like this will change your perspective and you will find deeper meaning to things. I was able to interact with some and some were even way eager to interact with me and this is where you can see how genuinely the people there want human interaction and feel seen/heard. Tho my time was limited last time, I hope to visit this place again in future.

This is located at the prime area, Galle(one of my best spot in down south). Distance away from many stuffs to do and get. A place will make you feel you're in a different country-fort, colonial architecture, the beach in Sri Lanka, you can also get a variety of different cuisines at Galle, diversity of culture.

Definitely not my first time in Sri Lanka but I never had spent time like last year there with friends and meeting new people. What can I say-it's more of home to me than a destination❤️…can't wait to get back!
